Provider advocates for people with disabilities

Thanks in large part to provider Al Neumann, the state of Minnesota will be represented for the first time in this year's Ms. Wheelchair America pageant. Neumann is the Minnesota chairman for the Midwest Association for Medical Equipment Services (MAMES) and the owner of Corner Medical in Rochester, Minn.

"Al's been the touchstone for getting this project off the ground," said Anne Krebsbach Neumann, the coordinator for Ms. Wheelchair Minnesota.

Minnesota will hold its Ms. Wheelchair competition on April 11. The winner will go on to compete at the national Ms. Wheelchair America pageant in August.

Krebsbach Neumann said the winner of the competition will serve as an advocate for people living in the state with disabilities.

"She will be talking to business owners, organizations and state representatives," she said.

Rose Schafhauser, executive director of MAMES, said the competition is a way to educate the general public on the importance of HME providers and to "shed light on some of these disabilities."
