CHICAGO – Reliant Infusion’s omni-channel model of specialty infusion services is the platform’s biggest competitive advantage as it positions for growth, says Shore Capital Partners, its parent company.
“We believe in having a scaled business with a diverse (population) of patients tailored to as many end markets as we possibly can,” said AJ Gauthier, principal at Shore Capital. “We started with the framework of (wanting to be) in multiple states, and we’ve built that and we can continue to do that.”
Last year, Shore Capital recapitalized Reliant Healthcare and merged it with Care Fusion Rx. The combined company, Reliant Infusion, now operates more than a dozen centers and multiple specialty pharmacies across the western and southern U.S.
New CEO tasked with building for scale
In September, Tommy Pourmahram was named CEO of Reliant Infusion as part of strategizing the company’s next phase.
Pourmahram brings more than 20 years of health care leadership to the role, most recently in senior executive positions at McKesson's Oncology & Multispecialty Segment, where he contributed directly to the Oncology & Multispecialty Segment’s growth and its position as a leader in the specialty market.
“Tommy has phenomenal experience in the pharmacy space,” said Mike Cooper, partner with Shore Capital. “Our charge for him is to really continue to build out a leading management team focused on patient experience and building out a repeatable efficient process and identifying the best markets.”
Expansion plans target metro and underserved markets
Cooper says Reliant Infusion plans to open about six de novo locations in the next year, with a focus on metropolitan markets, as well as rural and underserved communities. The company’s No. 1 focus is patient access.
“We have a saying at Shore Capital: Good medicine equals good business,” he said. “That’s not changing here. Our view is that if we do right by the patients, and do that quickly and efficiently, that will lead to continued growth of this platform.”
Partnerships, technology offer next growth levers
Reliant is also considering several options to further differentiate itself in the market, including partnerships with health systems and pharmaceutical companies, as well as technology investments, says Gauthier.
“We want to do everything that we can to help the patient – understanding their journey, having an easier time scheduling, understanding everything about their therapies,” he said. “That will drive value in the future.”
