Respironics pushes sales envelope with acquisition

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Respironics is pushing the $500 million sales envelope now that it has announced plans to acquire Nova-metrix, a cardiorespiratory company whose primary business is centered in the hospital. The $90 million stock swap would provide ancillary opportunities to the company's HME customer, as it creates increased utilization of the companies non-invasive ventilation technology. Novametrix products include electronic medical sensors and monitors that noninvasively provide continuous measurements of cardiac output, carbon dioxide, oxygen saturation and respiratory mechanics parameters. Novametrix also provides developmental care products and services that improve the quality of care for premature infants through its Children's Medical Ventures (ChMV) unit. The company believes that the ChMV unit will complement the Homecare Division's infant management business by broadening product offerings and distribution for this marketplace. HME
