CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Rotech Healthcare plans to lay off 61 employees handling customer service and medical supply sales at its facility here, according to local news reports. The layoffs, which represent 56% of the company's local workforce, will go into effect Dec. 22, according to reports. The news comes nearly three months after Rotech announced that it would lay off 90 employees from a billing center in Orlando, Fla., its home base. The company opened the 24,174-square-foot facility in Charlotte two years ago. Rotech's associate general counsel, Steve Burres, told the Charlotte Observer that Medicare reimbursement cuts are to blame for the layoffs.
