AAHomecare meets with high-level CMS officials

WASHINGTON – The leadership at AAHomecare – including providers Josh Marx and David Siegel – met with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Mehmet Oz and Deputy Administrator Kim Brandt recently to discuss strengthening the competitive bidding program and clarifying the moratorium on new supplier enrollments.

AAHomecare stated in a recent bulletin:

Officials have signaled concern for Medicare fraud, waste and abuse and expressed interest in leveraging the competitive bidding program as a fraud fighting tool. AAHomecare leaders underscored the industry’s commitment to program integrity, offering to collaborate with CMS on enhanced tools and strategies to identify and deter fraudulent activity.

Throughout the meeting, the conversation focused on the real-world impact current policies have on patients and the providers who serve them. AAHomecare shared data, practical implications, and stories from the industry contributing to a positive meeting with the Administration.

Also attending the meeting: Tom Ryan, president of AAHomecare; Cara Bachenheimer, general counsel for the association; and Jay Witter, senior vice president of public policy for the association.

Previously, in March, industry stakeholders hit the Hill for a series of high-level meetings to convince CMS to remove the remote-item delivery framework for the next round of competitive bidding and to implement a waiver from the moratorium for providers with at least 36 months in business.

Stakeholders will hit the Hill again on May 13-14 as part of the AAHomecare Washington Legislative Conference. The association says it already has advocates from 29 states planning to participate. FMI on the conference, go here.
