RICHMOND, Va. — Apria Healthcare and Byram Healthcare, both part of the Owens & Minor family, have entered into a new national provider agreement with Optum Health, significantly expanding access to durable medical equipment (DME) for patients across the country, they say.
Optum Health’s network includes more than 36,000 aligned care delivery physicians and advanced practice clinicians (APCs) and 1,900 clinical sites.
“It can be challenging to manage equipment needs, particularly for people managing more than one health condition,” said Perry Bernocchi, EVP and CEO of Patient Direct, which encompasses both Apria and Byram. “We look forward to working with Optum Health and using our expertise to provide their patients and members with greater value and more choice on the products they need to care for themselves in the comfort of their home.”
Comprehensive DME support for chronic and acute conditions
As preferred providers in Optum Health’s national DME network, Apria and Byram will offer a wide range of products across multiple categories, including:
- Diabetes care
- Sleep health
- Respiratory therapy
- Wound care
- Urology
- Ostomy care
The companies say this partnership aims to simplify the process of obtaining essential medical equipment, especially for patients managing multiple conditions at home.
Supporting provider network through the transition
To ensure a smooth rollout, Apria and Byram say they are actively engaging with provider network stakeholders. Educational materials and product information are being distributed through Optum Health’s provider portal and other communication channels.
Additionally, both companies are mobilizing their sales and operations teams to directly support providers and ensure a seamless experience for patients.
Industry momentum toward integrated home care
This agreement reflects a broader industry trend toward integrated, patient-centered home care solutions. Similar moves include AdaptHealth’s partnership with Humana and UnitedHealthcare’s agreement with Synapse Health, signaling growing demand for streamlined DME access within large healthcare networks.
