BALLOONING BRACKET
Busting the scale: The bariatrics category is expanding along with America's waistlines as the percentage of the population deemed obese continues to grow. The CDC estimates that 36% of Americans are now obese and that the percentage will grow to 42% by 2030.
SPANNING THE SPECTRUM
Becoming bariatric: Manufacturers are adding heavy-duty versions of products in a widening scope of products, including mobility equipment (wheelchairs and scooters), support surfaces (beds and mattresses), bath safety items (commodes and benches) and aids to daily living (walkers, canes and crutches).
BARIATRIC KNOW-HOW
Specialization required: Carrying a complete line of products and having a deep level of expertise and empathy with this special class of customers is essential. Referral sources typically prefer a one-stop source for products because they know their patients will be taken care of properly.
