Community Rx ready to provide coronavirus vaccinations

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Eighty-six percent of community pharmacists say they plan to offer coronavirus vaccines when then hit the marketplace, according to a new survey by the National Community Pharmacists Association. Twelve percent of community pharmacists say they want more information before they decide. “Community pharmacists are already doing immunizations, so this is a natural expansion of the health care services they're already providing,” said B. Douglas Hoey, pharmacist, MBA, CEO of the NCPA. Among the community pharmacies that provide vaccinations for other illnesses, 70% administer them to patients at locations beyond their stores. Eighty one percent provide them at local businesses, while 53% provide them at long-term care facilities. “A big takeaway from the survey is that community pharmacists are highly mobile,” Hoey said. “Their reach goes far beyond the brick and mortar of their pharmacy and most are more than willing to go wherever they can do the most good.”
