In brief: JQ Medical’s new CEO, Aeroflow’s Cigna deal, Acelleron’s award

SALT LAKE CITY – JQ Medical has named Ryan Schorr CEO to lead the company through its next phase of growth, focusing on patient experience, operational excellence and market expansion.

Schorr, who succeeds Matt Gallagher, has also been appointed to the company’s board of directors.

Schorr brings more than two decades of health care experience to JQ Medical, holding senior leadership roles across direct-to-patient, medical distribution and post-acute care companies, including Edgepark Medical Supplies and Cardinal Health. His background includes a focus on scaling operations while maintaining patient-first cultures.

"Ryan's leadership style and focus on operational rigor align perfectly with what makes JQ successful – responsiveness and personalized support," said Matt Komenda, founder and managing partner of JQ Medical's private equity sponsor, Tacoma Holdings. "He understands what it takes to scale without sacrificing what matters most to patients and providers."

JQ Medical launched in 1994, specializing in support for individuals managing Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes across the country. It has built a reputation for its knowledgeable staff, fast delivery and dedication to navigating the complexities of diabetes care.

"I'm honored to join a company that delivers on its promise to make diabetes care easier for patients and their providers," said Schorr. "Having spent 20 years in direct-to-patient businesses, I understand that the environment is complex, but the solutions are simple; answering the phone, getting patients their products quickly and helping them navigate their benefit questions.  I have known JQ Medical since early in my career and the business has always had a great reputation in the market for its responsiveness and commitment to all stakeholders in the process. I'm excited to build on that foundation and help more patients get the support they need to live healthier lives."

Senators introduce bill to preserve pharmacy access for beneficiaries

WASHINGTON — Sens. John Thune, R-S.D., and Mark Warner, D-Va., today reintroduced the Equitable Community Access to Pharmacist Services (ECAPS) Act, bipartisan legislation that would allow Medicare to reimburse for certain pharmacist-administered tests, treatments, and vaccinations for illnesses like influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and strep throat, in accordance with state scope-of-practice laws. “Seniors across South Dakota rely on the care and support they receive from their community pharmacists,” said Thune. “I am proud to lead this commonsense legislation that would allow these services and other important treatments to remain a reliable option for seniors, particularly in our rural communities.” During the pandemic, pharmacists stepped up to meet urgent health care needs, especially in underserved and rural communities, said Warner. “This bill builds on that progress by making sure seniors can continue to count on their local pharmacists for routine tests, vaccines, and treatments for common illnesses like flu and COVID,” he said. “This is a practical step to improve access to care, reduce the burden on hospitals and clinics, and make our health system work better for seniors.”

Aeroflow Health inks deal with Cigna for nutrition services

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Aeroflow Health has entered into a nationwide partnership with Cigna to provide patients with nutrition services via telehealth visits with qualified dieticians. The medical nutrition therapy program will cater to patient populations who most benefit from nutrition interventions, including new mothers and those with diabetes. “Nutrition plays a vital role in both the treatment and prevention of various health conditions,” said Amanda Minimi, vice president of health solutions marketing and operations at Aeroflow Health. “We’ve been working diligently to increase access to our nutrition services program with partnerships like Cigna’s. By utilizing a telehealth delivery method, we’ve created a solution to ensure easy access to nutrition education, which is crucial for new mothers who are navigating their postpartum recovery while also managing their milk supply, as well as those who are combatting chronic diseases.” The partnership will give Cigna patients access to registered dietitians to work on specific dietary changes that can help them boost milk production for breastfeeding, lose weight, reduce glucose/A1C, reduce cholesterol and blood pressure, lower the risk for heart disease and increase overall energy. Aeroflow’s registered dieticians will provide personalized meal plans and lifestyle tips to help patients build sustainable healthy habits for the long term – all from the comfort of their homes and free of charge through Cigna’s insurance. The program also gives health providers under Cigna a gateway to data-driven insights and multiple touchpoints with patients to improve adherence, outcomes and overall care coordination.

Take the survey: How will accreditation proposal impact you?

WATERLOO, Iowa – The Council for Quality Respiratory Care, VGM and AAHomecare are requesting feedback on a new proposed rule that could significantly impact accreditation procedures. Under the proposal, released June 30, accreditation organizations would be required to conduct site visits every year—a major shift from the current once-every-three-years schedule. In a recent HME Newspoll, ninety-six percent of respondents said they don’t think re-accreditation should be an annual requirement and would place undue burdens on providers. The associations are urging industry members to complete a quick, one-minute survey by Friday, Aug. 1, to help better understand how these changes could affect providers across the industry. Little Hands by Shop Home Med launches crowdfunding platform

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Little Hands by Shop Home Med is launching a crowdfunding platform to help caregivers raise money for essential pediatric equipment. This initiative is designed to empower families across the country who struggle to afford critical equipment, such as pediatric wheelchairs, special needs strollers, mobility aids and specialized care tools. Without out-of-pocket costs rising and insurance coverage often falling short, the platform offers a new source of hope: a community-driven way to fund life-changing gear for children in need, the company says. “Too many families are forced to make impossible choices when it comes to their child’s health,” said Ezrie Myers, COO of Shop Home Med. “We believe no child should go without the equipment they need to live, grow and thrive. That’s why Little Hands is here to lift up families one campaign at a time.” The new crowdfunding tool enables families to create personalized fundraising pages that share their story, list the necessary medical equipment and collect donations directly through the Shop Home Med website. Supporters can contribute with just a few clicks, and families can track progress and share updates with their networks. In addition to donations, Shop Home Med is offering discounted pricing, transparent quotes and fulfillment assistance for all items purchased through the Little Hands program, making it easier than ever for families to turn fundraising success into real, delivered solutions, the company says.
