John Letizia joins expanded NCART board

John Letizia joins expanded NCART board

John LetiziaEDENSBURG, Pa. – After focusing on his business and his family life for several years, John Letizia, a former chairman of AAHomecare’s board of directors, is back in the industry spotlight, this time at NCART.

Letizia, president of Laurel Medical Solutions, which provides mobility and accessibility products and services, as well as HME, respiratory and O&P, was announced as a new board member of the association in December.

“I’m super excited,” he said. “My daughter graduated from college and is working and my son graduates in May and has a job, and I’m remarried, so I’ve got that part of my life buttoned up. I wanted to get back to being involved.”

In an expansion for the association’s board, NCART also named Brad Peterson, vice president of sales for the U.S. for Amylior, as a board member.

Letizia, an assistive technology professional (ATP) who still works with children and adults with disabilities daily, says he will bring a different perspective to NCART’s board.

“I really bring the patient perspective,” he said. “We all talk about having the patient in mind, but when it comes down to it, that’s difficult. It costs me money. It’s tough in this industry with shrinking margins, but we have to remember that’s what our mission is.”

Having the patient in mind means, for example, that when the local HMO cuts reimbursement by 19%, which happened recently in Pennsylvania, it’s your job to educate and advocate, Letizia says.

“The patients don’t know any of this is happening,” he said. “Then when I talk to (the insurer), I ask, ‘Why would you make a cut? It’s 2025, has the cost of anything gone down 19%?’”

While Letizia has been largely out of the industry spotlight for the past several years, he’s still been involved on a community level through Reagan’s Journey, a pediatric loan closet, and the state chapter of United Spinal Association. Now he’s looking forward to bringing his voice back to a wider audience.

“When I interviewed for the role (at NCART), they said, ‘You’ve been talking for 15 minutes straight; you’re not going to be a board member who doesn’t talk,’” he said. “It’s true. One of my therapists got me a T-shirt that says, ‘Sorry I’m late; I was talking to John Letizia.’”
