Region D works to fix billing snafu

FARGO, N.D. - Unpaid claims continue to pile up at a disturbing rate, but Noridian, the Region D MAC, has begun making good faith efforts to solve the problem, providers say. As of Jan. 15, there were 947 claims older than 90 days and 22,939 claims older than 61 days. "The actual volume of claims suspending for manual review has been greater than our projections," Noridian stated in a release. "We realize our high volume of suspended claims is impacting cash flow for some suppliers." At one point, Tim Pederson, CEO of WestMed Rehab in Rapid City, S.D., saw a drop in cash flow of about $100,000, but the MAC has been responsive to his plight, Pederson said. "It's been easy to get a hold of them and work out those issues," he said. "I really sense an effort on their part. I think it was just a difficult transition." The Region D MAC Advisory Committee (DAC) has been in regular communication with Noridian. "The DAC has been able to assist both the providers and Noridian in resolving concerns and help with educational issues," said a statement from the DAC executive board. "We are continually working so suppliers will be able to expedite services so beneficiaries are served."
