Study backs up safety, effectiveness of home infusion, NHIA says

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Patients are overwhelmingly satisfied with their home infusion experience, according to the results of the National Home Infusion Foundation's annual study. When asked if they were satisfied with the overall quality of services on a five-point scale, respondents reported a mean score of 4.7 out of 5. “These study results reinforce that patients are able to receive infusion treatments safely and effectively in their homes and that the home setting remains a preferred site of care,” said Connie Sullivan, president of the NHIA. To conduct the study, the NHIA collected data from more than 32,000 home infusion patients and more than 6,000 completed surveys. The association also found patients felt home infusion clinicians provide clear instructions on how to receive infused medication properly. Nearly 99% of respondents reported they have received adequate instructions for washing hands, self-administering medications and caring for the IV catheters, according to the study.
