Tennessee lawmakers express licensure concerns

WASHINGTON - A group of lawmakers from Tennessee has written a letter to CMS expressing concern about contract suppliers in Round 2 of competitive bidding that don't meet state licensure requirements, according to an article from TheChattanoogan.com. “CMS has awarded contracts to suppliers without a license in Tennessee,” the letter states. “Tennessee law requires a physical location in the state as a prerequisite to obtaining a license to provide medical equipment.” Further on in the letter, the lawmakers say they're unsure whether or not there will be enough licensed companies contracted by Medicare to supply HME to Medicare beneficiaries in Tennessee. “Tennesseans need to have timely access to these important life sustaining supplies from a business licensed by the state of Tennessee,” the letter states. The letter was led by Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., and Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R, Tenn., and signed by eight other lawmakers.
