PETOSKEY, Mich. - For Peter Primak, the best thing about Petoskey isn't the great view. The best part is knowing that from this new location, Advent Home Medical can more readily serve patients in northern Michigan.
Advent Home Medical is focused on providing home ventilation care for adults and children, including those who have survived catastrophic automobile accidents. Primak manages Advent's second location, the Petoskey store, which opened Oct. 24.
Advent has been serving the entire state from its Auburn Hills, Mich., corporate office, relying on contract respiratory therapists to reach its patients in northern Michigan.
Petoskey sits along the picturesque shore of Lake Michigan's Little Traverse Bay. It's also close to the northernmost reaches of the state's Upper Peninsula.
“We saw a great need up there,” said Primak. “There are really not any providers up there that provide the services we provide. Even speaking with the major hospital system up there, the CEO welcomed us because there is a great need to allow patients to have choices.”
Founded by Carlia Cichon in 2004, Advent Medical is a clinically-focused company employing more than 20 respiratory therapists. The provider also offers respiratory devices, supplies, hospital beds, wound care supplies, enteral therapy and incontinence care, said Primak.
“We are the only home ventilation company in the state that will do hands-on care in the home,” said Primak. “As a DME company with a primary focus on home ventilation care, it's important we have a full range of supplies to care for that population.”
The Petoskey branch offers DME and home ventilation services. Advent hopes to add Advicare Pharmacy Services and private duty staffing in the future, Primak said.
