BOC reinstated as approved accrediting organization  Court grants company’s motion for temporary restraining order against CMS 

Judi KnottOWINGS Mills, Md. - The Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC) has been reinstated as an approved accrediting organization (AO) in all but four states, the company has announced.

Knott, MA, MBA, CAE, president and CEO of BOC. “Our commitment to quality and to the professionals and businesses we serve remains steadfast, and we look forward to assisting with businesses’ accreditation needs.” 

At a hearing on Jan. 9, 2026, the U.S. District Court, District of Maryland, granted BOC’s motion for a temporary restraining order (TRO) against CMS. As a result of the court’s ruling, BOC is again authorized as a CMS-approved AO, and CMS has confirmed this status remains in effect until further notice. 

CMS withdrew BOC’s approval on Dec. 2, 2025. BOC responded by filing a lawsuitBoard of Certification/Accreditation International, Inc. v. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. et al, Case No. 1:25-cv-04150-MJM. 

What this means for BOC-accredited facilities: 

  • Effective Jan. 9, 2026, BOC can continue operations and is authorized to provide full accreditation and reaccreditation related services in 46 states. 
  • Effective Jan. 9, 2026, BOC is authorized to accept new DMEPOS applications in 46 states. 
  • Restrictions announced in May 2025 continue to be in place for reaccreditation and new accreditation of suppliers in California, Florida, New York and Texas.
