CMS clarifies ostomy billing

Columbia, S.C.--Ostomy supplies may be provided to Medicare beneficiaries based on a verbal or preliminary written order, but providers must obtain a detailed written order before billing Medicare for the items, according to a bulletin published in June by Palmetto GBA. Written orders must include patient's name, a description of the item, the physician's name and the start date of the order.
