DMERCs clarify headrest accessory issue

YARMOUTH, Maine -- The DMERC medical directors have met and agreed that headrests should be required on tilt, recline and tilt/recline systems, according to the Regional A Council. Region A Medical Director Dr. Paul Hughes advised the medical reviewers to remove existing front-end edits. Dr. Hughes did stress that there will be no change in policy until the next revisions, but in the meantime, reviews/redeterminations for headrest denials on covered tilt and recline systems should reference the DMERC medical directors' decision.
