Former Apria exec heads up new infusion company

CHICAGO - Flexpoint Partners has acquired the assets of Midatlantic Home Infusion in Fairfield, N.J., it was announced Jan. 5. The company, American Infusion Holdings, will do business under the Midatlantic name. Donald A. Carlberg has joined the new company as CEO. Previously, he served as senior vice president of infusion services for Apria Healthcare. Midatlantic provides home infusion pharmacy services, offering a full range of intravenous and other specialty therapies, including intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), total parenteral nutrition and intravenous pain management, to patients in New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area. The acquisition fits with Flexpoint's investment strategy, said Ethan Budin, Flexpoint principal, in a statement. "We identified home infusion as an attractive area for investment almost a year ago and have been working on finding the right situation ever since," said Budin. Midatlantic is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Founder Harvey Sussman will continue working with the company as a consultant.
