WILSON, N.C. - An HME has set aside $2.8 million to repay Medicare and Medicaid for billing errors, according to the Wilson Daily Times. Although WilMed Home Medical billed for the proper monetary amounts, it lacked supporting documentation. The company discovered the mistakes during a management change in 200- and reported it to authorities. Auditors sampling records found an estimated $1.6 million in inappropriate billing, but WilMed expects a larger payback--an estimated $2.8 million--since more records could have lacked documentation and interest could be added. But there was no intent to defraud the government, said CEO Rick Hudson. "It's something we found and reported," he said. "We reported to all authorities that we (messed) up."
