Members of Congress sign AOPA letter

WASHINGTON - Thirty-five members of Congress—19 Democrats, 16 Republicans—agreed to sign a letter presented to them by members of American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) regarding CMS audit procedures, according to an article form healio.com. The effort was initiated by those who attended the AOPA Forum March 11-12, when individuals tried to persuade congressional representatives to sign a letter from Rep. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., and Rep. Brett Guthrie, R-Ky., addressed to Kathleen Sebelius, secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), about concerns with CMS auditing procedures.
In February, the Orthotics and Prosthetics Group of America (OPGA), a division of the VGM Group, launched the Speak4OandP campaign, an initiative to collect testimony from O&P providers about the adverse effects CMS audits. Providers have seen a sharp uptick in audits since a 2011 report from the Office of Inspector General found that Medicare in 2009 made $104 million in improper payments for prostheses that did not meet certain requirements.
