Mother of all batteries lasts 13 years

ATLANTA - It just kept going and going and going. A wheelchair user in North Carolina juiced his ride for 13 years with an MK battery. Batteries average two-and-a-half to three years. MK put the word out to dealers and service techs earlier this year: Find the oldest battery still in service and win $500. Stalls Medical Equipment nabbed the prize last month at Medtrade; battery owner Robert Cherry now earns his 15 minutes of DME fame as the star of a new MK ad campaign. Unfortunately the mother of all batteries was retired this year. It still worked but not as well as it used to.
