Providers sweetens pot for diabetes awareness

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - Many providers say they support diabetes awareness, but American Diabetes Wholesale in November put its money where its mouth is.

The mail-order provider will donate $3 to diabetes organizations for each story published on glucostories.com, a Web site it created that supports people living with diabetes. The stories are submitted by people whose lives have been impacted by the disease.

“Our goal is to get as many stories as possible to help people with diabetes learn from other people with diabetes,” said Chris Maguire, vice president. “We want to make sure people continue to pursue their dreams and don't let diabetes stop them from what they want to do.”

American Diabetes Wholesale launched glucostories.com in May 2009 and receives story submissions every day—all get published. Users to the site can search by category, such as Type 1, newly diagnosed and healthy living.

Glucostories.com is part of the provider's commitment to supporting diabetes patients, said Maguire.

“If we can connect them to somebody else it will certainly help them manage their disease,” he said.
