Respironics plans big recall

MURRYSVILLE, Pa. - Respironics plans to conduct a limited, voluntary product recall of a heated humidifier used with its older CPAP systems. The company announced the recall Oct. 26 as part of its first quarter financial results. Respironics is currently in discussion with the FDA regarding the recall and will finalize its proposed course of action after completing the talks. In total, the company expects that approximately 172,000 humidifiers, produced three to five years ago, are affected, and it estimates the cost of the recall to be about $5 million. For the first quarter of FY 2007, Respironics net sales jumped 11% to $266.6 million compared to $240.2 million last year.
