The Scooter Store, Scott Higley part ways

Update: I just got a call from Scott Higley. He told me: "I think nothing but the best of what they're doing. I'm just looking at some other opportunities." Higley plans to stay in the HME industry. He said: "I don't know 100% if it will be in mobility, specifically, but I plan to stay in the industry. I've been in it for 25 years and I still have a passion for it. It's an industry that has a lot of challenges ahead, and I look forward to helping wherever I go."

The Scooter Store and Scott Higley, who helped the company launch Alliance Seating & Mobility, its complex rehab division, parted ways last month.

"It was a mutual decision," said Mike Pfister, The Scooter Store's executive vice president of government relations and external affairs. "We're very grateful for the work Scott did for us. We know he'll land somewhere quickly and he'll do a good job for them as he did us."

Attempts to reach Higley have been unsuccessful so far. Before becoming vice president of Alliance Seating & Mobility, he was COO of Adorno Rogers Technology, a complex rehab provider that closed its doors in 2007 and formed the launching pad for the company, and vice president of Quantum Rehab, a division of Pride Mobility Products.

Higley, who is well-known and well-respected in complex rehab circles, helped Alliance Seating & Mobility recruit dozens of assistive technology professionals (ATPs), which allowed the company to create a nationwide footprint in only a few years.

"We're sitting at about 90 ATPs right now, and I think Scott had a lot to do with many of their personal decisions to come join us," Pfister said. "They knew about our company and the characteristics of our company, but his history, particularly with Quantum, made them more comfortable."

The Scooter Store will not directly replace Higley. Ricardo Flores-Clar will assume some of his responsibilities and he will distribute other responsibilities to various managers.
