Pharmacist Robert Borgatti, owner of Vienna Rexall Drug in Vienna, Va., hosted Rep. Gerald Connolly, D-Va., during the President's Day Congressional recess in February. Borgatti is particularly concerned with the impact mandatory accreditation has on small pharmacies like his. "I am a one-owner store," he said. "To have to form an executive committee--and I am the whole committee--and have meetings with myself and document that, all in hopes that I can get accredited to sell some strips and maybe an occasional walker (is burdensome)." The site visit was one of many held by independent pharmacists during the break. The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) helped set up visits. "Lobbying and political contributions to pharmacy-friendly members of Congress are important, but these visits help to put a face on the issues," said John Norton, associate director of public relations for NCPA.
