Walgreens grows its Texas HME business

October 27, 2003 DEERFIELD, Ill. - Walgreens Health Initiatives has acquired selected assets from the owners of Pinnacle Home Care, a home infusion business in San Antonio, Austin and Corpus Christi, Texas. The deal was effective Oct. 1. Pinnacle Home Care has provided infusion services to patients in southeast and central Texas since 1999. "In addition to our comprehensive home care facility in Houston, this acquisition expands Walgreens Health Initiatives' regional presence in Texas," said Ron Allen, vice president of WHI's home care division. "These new facilities initially will offer infusion services, and plans are in the works to introduce respiratory services and home medical equipment." Currently operating accredited HME facilities in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Texas and Wisconsin, WHI plans to continue its home care expansion in those states as well as new ones. Walgreen Co. is the nation's largest drugstore chain with fiscal 2003 sales of $32.5 billion. The company operates 4,229 stores in 44 states and Puerto Rico, along with Walgreens Health Initiatives. In addition to providing home care services through Walgreens Home Care, Inc., WHI operates three mail service pharmacies and provides pharmacy benefit management and specialty pharmacy services.
