Cape Medical picks up where competitor left off

SANDWICH, Mass. - When a competitor recently vacated a 960-square-foot location near a hospital in Falmouth, Mass., Cape Medical Supply "jumped" at the opportunity to fill the hole. The provider debuted a retail location there July 2.
"People in the community recognize that space as a place to go when you need those items," said General Manager Gary Sheehan. "It's almost an installed customer base."
The Sandwich, Mass.-based Cape Medical has another retail location in Plymouth, Mass. Both locations carry similar products, but the new location, due to its proximity to Falmouth Hospital, will also carry products like stethoscopes.
Cape Medical expects the new location to further strengthen its relationship with Cape Cod Health Care, which owns Falmouth Hospital. In 2005, Cape Medical acquired two HME companies owned by the healthcare system.
The new location situates Cape Medical "right down the hill" from the hospital. Before, the provider's closest location was at least 15 miles away.
