Florida CB stalls again

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Things are moving in the right direction for Florida HME providers as the state delays yet another attempt to call out competitive bidding program. The program needed to request a waiver from CMS that would allow the state to limit patient freedom of choice. The state originally planned to issue the request for proposal Oct. 1 but pushed that date to Oct. 26, said Joan Cross, president of the Florida Association of Medical Equipment Supplies. As that date came and went, no news came out of the state legislature. “As far as we know nothing has come out. It's been pretty quiet,” said Cross. Cross has seen promise in the communication between the industry and lawmakers who've questioned the legislature's proposal. She hopes that getting legislators on the side of providers may help stem further steps toward competitive bidding.
