SOS evolves into ‘full-service model’

Sarah NewbyHOUSTON – Strategic Office Support recently expanded its remote staffing services to include revenue cycle management, says Sarah Newby.

SOS in July hired Skye Banegas, who Newby calls an “RCM wizard,” to lead the new service. Banegas is supported by a full team of operations managers, recruiters, trainers and hand-selected team leads in Cebu, Philippines, where the company has much of its staff.

“We were already doing revenue cycle management as part of the different services that we offer clients,” said Newby, director of sales and marketing for SOS. “If our clients needed a payment poster, we do that; if they needed someone to run down denials, we do that. We have the knowledge and experience to do all the pieces of RCM, so why not offer it as a service. Combined with the remote staffing, it’s a full-service model.”

President Steve Cela founded SOS in 2019, building on 25-plus years in health care, including owning and operating multi-location diagnostic centers and DME companies in Houston.

SOS is also actively hiring team members in the United States to grow overall business, Newby says.

“That differentiates us from others,” she said. “We have U.S.-based expertise, so it’s not simply, ‘Here’s your associate; you train and manage them,’ it’s more, ‘Hey, let us optimize your process, develop best practices, build dashboards with you.’”

At the same time, SOS continues to expand in the Philippines, Newby says. The company’s employees all work in-office, and it recently expanded its footprint to include a space in a modern IT park in Cebu with more than 400 seats.

“Accenture was previously in that space, and they’re moving out,” she said. “It’s open 24/7, which is great because our associates work overnight.”
