NRRTS offers ‘good array’ of education

LUBBOCK, Texas – NRRTS has a full slate of 24 live webinars scheduleWeesie Walkerd for 2023 – and it’s still adding more.

Executive Director Weesie Walker said in late December that NRRTS was working on adding a webinar on the funding climate for complex rehab technology in Canada.

“If you’re talking postural support or seating and positioning, it doesn’t matter what side of the border you’re on,” she said. “Funding is the one that, if you’re in Canada, you probably don’t want to listen to a webinar on Medicare. We’re finding funding issues are similar there, but the processes are different, with each province having their own funding agency. So, it’s a little more challenging.”

NRRTS opened registration to CRT suppliers in Canada in 2020 and has about 250 registrants there as of late 2022.

The organization kicked off its education offerings in January, with a free webinar called “What parents want CRT suppliers to know,” a panel discussion with parents of children who use CRT in the United States and Canada.

“It was an opportunity for them to say good things about suppliers,” Walker said, “but also talk about the issues they face and their perceptions about the process.”

In December, NRRTS had webinars scheduled and posted through March – with topics running the gamut from early custom seating to power add-ons for manual wheelchairs – and it was working to fill in the remainder of the year.

One theme in 2023: more panels, including a panel with Walker, Andrea Van Hook, the executive director of RESNA, and Wanye Grau, the executive director of NCART, on Feb. 23 on advocacy.

“We want to give suppliers ways to reach out to consumers,” Walker said. “It’s the age-old problem of getting consumers more aware and more inspired to get involved. I don’t believe we have the answer, but the three of us are going to talk it out and share some things we’ve done.”

NRRTS also makes its webinars available on-demand. It has about 130 catalogued in an online library on its website, www.nrrts.org.

“It’s a good array of content for people to choose from, regardless of what they’re looking for,” Walker said.
