Amazing story

May 4, 2012Elizabeth Deprey

I have to admit it: I'm one of those people whose heart goes pitter-pat when I see babies, kittens and puppies. Certain commercials make me tear up. I could be considered a softie. One of my favorite things about covering mobility is seeing all these amazing stories about how getting mobility equipment has helped someone achieve their dream or do something incredible. (You know this if you follow me on Twitter, since I can't resist tweeting these stories when I find them.) Liz forwarded me one of...

'Wheelchair mobility at the tip of the tongue'

January 26, 2010Liz Beaulieu, Editor

Here's a cool story, "Wheelchair mobility at the tip of the tongue," that appeared on CNN's Web site yesterday. It's about a tongue drive wheelchair that's being developed by the Georgia Institute of Technology. The reporter describes the technology this way: Once he mastered the commands, researchers fitted his tongue with a small magnet, no bigger than a piece of rice. It produced this story on power soccer last week (see below). Check it out to learn the story of a power soccer player who left France to promote the sport here in the United States and another player...

CNN: Medicare overpays for wheelchairs

July 21, 2009Liz Beaulieu, Editor

The mainstream media (and whoever has their ear) has impeccable timing when it comes to haranguing the HME industry. CNN aired a segment last night about how the answer to Medicare's problem of overpaying for wheelchairs is national competitive bidding. This just as the industry works to get a bill introduced to eliminate the program (We reported in yesterday's NewsWire that the bill is "imminent."). Liz Beaulieu
