CMS expands scope of stay-of-enrollment

WASHINGTON – The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on May 18 will begin applying additional scenarios where stay-of-enrollment can be applied on non-compliant DMEPOS suppliers, AAHomecare reports. Those scenarios:
Liability insurance and surety bond cancellations
Site visit non-compliance determinations
Failure to respond to development requests within 30 days for revalidations or changes to information

DMEPOS appeals, rebuttals transition to NPE contractors

WASHINGTON – The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that, effective May 8, 2026, Chags Health Information Technology LLC (C-HIT) will no longer handle DMEPOS appeals and rebuttals. Responsibility for processing these submissions will transition to the National Provider Enrollment (NPE) DMEPOS contractors.
The two NPE contractors are: Palmetto GBA, for the western half of the country (NPEC West) and Novitas for the eastern half (NPEC East).

WASHINGTON – AAHomecare’s quarterly supplier number tracking sheet is now available with January 2024 data. AAHomecare monitors the DMEPOS industry by reviewing the list of Medicare enrolled suppliers. The updated tracking sheet continues to show a slight decline from last quarter’s update. WASHINGTON – CMS today announced a 9.1% increase for competitively bid DMEPOS items in non-competitive bidding areas and a 6.4% increase for bid items in former CBAs for calendar year 2023, AAHomecare reports.
Non-bid items will receive an 8.7% increase.
Typically, the CPI-U increases for DME have been 1%-3%. Last year, the inflation adjustment was 5% in former CBAs and 5.4% non-CBAs.
