Consolidation, coaching and the care continuum

January 14, 2015Liz Beaulieu, Editor

HME News taped a bunch of HME News TV interviews at Medtrade in October. I always enjoy previewing these interviews—there are so many hidden gems in them that can get you motivated about the industry, your company, your employees, you name it. That's a big ROI for a three- to seven-minute video. This batch of interviews covers everything from executive leadership challenges like coaching to industry trends like consolidation to bigger picture themes like bringing the care continuum downstream. These...

TV tidbits: Senate support, system cracks, right-sizing and more

December 12, 2013Liz Beaulieu, Editor

I just reviewed 10 HME News TV interviews for a new schedule for the first quarter of 2014. Know what that means? I have a preview for you. From the interview with Invacare's Cara Bachenheimer, I learned that even though stakeholders don't have a bill to replace competitive bidding with a market-pricing program (MPP) introduced in the Senate, that doesn't mean they don't have support there. She says, “They're looking at this bill,” meaning the bill in the House of Representatives, H.R....

Forget the fall TV schedule

October 1, 2013Liz Beaulieu, Editor

At Medtrade next week, while the Maine-based editors of HME News run around putting together onsite newspapers (get your copy of the Show Dailies at the top of the elevators on Wednesday and Thursday mornings), Cleveland-based Contributing Editor Jennifer Keirn will be manning (womanning?) the HME News TV studio. I think we have a record number of interviews scheduled this year—32 over two-and-a-half days! While you're walking the show floor, swing by the studio at Booth 1367 to see your favorite...

Settling, solutions and sales

March 21, 2013Liz Beaulieu, Editor

Another 11 HME News TV interviews at Medtrade Spring today. Here are some quick hits: Jim Hollingshead of ResMed on how the relationship between sleep manufacturers and providers has changed in the past few years due to the emphasis on compliance (due to more stringent policies) and the need for cash sales (due to declining reimbursement)—“It's about more than boxes and masks.” Rick Worstell on the increase in the number of providers who are taking audits to the administrative law...

A Jet Blue flight to Vegas, then lights, camera, action

March 28, 2012Liz Beaulieu, Editor

Like many of you, I'm heading to Las Vegas in less than two weeks for Medtrade Spring. I have reservations about this, but it has nothing to do with the show, which I know will be great! My reservations are heretofore: 1.) I'm flying Jet Blue, which was more appealing before this happened. Mind you, you're reading the words of a person who: shows up at the airport at least two hours early (with no exceptions, even when departing from PWM, you know, Portland, Maine); who,...

Change your attitude, try the French-fry close and stay away from extremes

March 13, 2012Liz Beaulieu, Editor

Last week, we kicked off our new schedule of HME New TV interviews for the next two months. This round of interviews covers a pretty wide range of topics. I'm pretty sure there's something here for everyone. Win or lose at competitive bidding, you're scrutinizing your operations, right? Tune in right now for Miriam Lieber of Lieber Consulting on "Change your attitude about operational efficiency." Wondering how much money you'll save with a modern software platform? Tune in tomorrow for Jana Macon...

New ways to make money and new ways to do business

December 29, 2011Liz Beaulieu, Editor

When you're back at work after the New Year, and you're looking for something to take your mind off things for a few minutes while you eat lunch, check out HME News TV. I just put together the schedule for January and February, and it's a good one. There are ideas for new ways to make money (get into home sleep testing for non-Medicare payers) and new ways to do business (eliminate non-value-added activities and use patients as couriers for documentation). Of course, it wouldn't be HME News TV without...

10 most interesting people in the HME industry, version 2.0

October 5, 2011Liz Beaulieu, Editor

I don't know about you, but I'm in Medtrade preparation mode. That means, in part, scheduling interviews for HME News TV at the show. We tape every half hour during the show floor hours Tuesday through Thursday, with an 1-hour break for lunch each day. So it's quite a few interviews. In all, it'll be about 25. We usually tape the interviews in our booth (which is 569, by the way). But not this year. This year, with Medtrade's help, we're going all out. We're taping the interviews by the last set...
